DAVIESS CO., Ky. — A couple in Kentucky has been arrested after their missing child’s remains were found in a storage unit, officials say.
According to a news release from the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a call about a possible missing person on September 30. A concerned caller said that a young girl was missing from a family and that they had not seen her for some time. The caller claimed that Jose Gomez-Alvarez and Cheyanne Porter took care of multiple children and kept making different excuses as to where the missing child was.
According to WFIE, the girl’s siblings told deputies that she had died in their house in Evansville and told them about the storage units. WFIE reported that the girl was about 9 years old.
DCSO said that they learned that Gomez-Alvarez and Porter were both “transient, living in different states, staying in local hotels” for most of 2022. A Facebook post was put together to locate them so that the welfare of the children could be checked on, including the possible missing child’s welfare. It was learned that no other agency had reported the child missing, so DCSO filed a missing person’s report.
According to WKYT, on Monday, officials said that new information led them to a storage facility. DCSO in the news release said that deputies found a storage unit at the facility that belonged to Porter. After deputies got a search warrant for the unit, they located a tote with possible human remains inside.

DCSO said the human remains were taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Madisonville, Kentucky, for an autopsy and positive identification.
DCSO obtained arrest warrants for Gomez-Alvarez and Porter. Both were found in Berea, Kentucky. The Kentucky State Police Post 7 assisted in executing the warrants and have assisted in the investigation.
Gomez-Alvarez and Porter have been arrested on recommended charges of tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse, according to DCSO.
The investigation into the girl’s death is ongoing. No further information has been released.
