It was every parent’s worst nightmare.
"By the time I got up and out, there wasn’t any car here, but the father came out and said his kid had been shot," Harvey said.
A man across the street said he heard gunshots. Now, police are investigating the home covered in bullet holes.
"While I was sitting there, I heard them popping off and it only sounded like a single gun being fired, not multiples," Harvey said.
A panicked dad rushed to save his son.
"The father drove by and asked me to call 911. It was after that that I found out his child had been killed," Harvey said.
The child was just 9 years old.
"There’s kids down at the end of the street there and kids here and they all play. They come over and knock on the door and ask to play with my kids, as well," Harvey said.
Other children in the neighborhood are heartbroken over the loss of their friend.
"If they don’t want to go to school, I’m not forcing them to right now. This is a pretty life-changing event," Harvey said.
Neighbors laid down flowers in his memory and hope they can help a mourning family.
"All I can say is other fathers will be there for him," Harvey said.
Police plan to release the name of the little boy Thursday morning ad said the investigation into who the shooter was is in the very early stages.
