Grand Island Central Catholic is in motion to build an elementary school attached to the high school.
The school will expand to the north and the west sides of the property. Two hundred students are already enrolled for the future elementary school with plenty of space for more. Jordan Engle, the principal of the school, said they are excited about the future and the fundraising is going well.
“We’ve actually raised just over $7 million in our capital campaign aimed towards our elementary school. It’s an $11 million campaign. Already we are about two thirds of the way home, we’re in a position right now where we’re hoping to break ground and open the school in the fall of 2024. As we go about building the school, it will be built entirely with privately raised funds. Having our own elementary school will allow us to have one school from which we’re hoping that we draw a large number of students into our middle and high school, and then of course we have control over the curriculum, faith formation and all of the things that will happen in those lower grades.” said Engle.
The school said they are excited to bring a new private school to the Grand Island community.
