Henderson County property owners can plan to receive notice of their new property values this coming February.

This date and others were authorized Monday by the Henderson County Board of Commissioners. Tax Administrator Darlene Burgess presented the proposed 2023 Schedule of Values for Market Value and for Present Use Value to commissioners.

The dates include:

  • Nov. 7: Public hearing on the schedule of values
  • Nov. 16: Adoption of the schedules of values by the board of commissioners
  • Nov. 20, 23 and Dec. 7, 14: Publication of the order of adoption of schedule of values (published once a week for four consecutive weeks)
  • Jan. 1: Effective date for reappraisal
  • Feb. 1: Tentative date that value change notices will be mailed

The goal of the 2023 reappraisal is to appraise all real property at 100% of its fair market value as of Jan. 1, 2023. Real property includes land, buildings, structures and improvements.

While the state requires a reappraisal every eight years, Henderson County has conducted one every four years since 1995.

Homeowners can expect to see a significant jump in their property values compared to the last reappraisal process as home prices continue to climb in Henderson County.

The county plans to update its website with information on the reappraisal process at www.hendersoncountync.gov.
