42-year-old Rhode Island man found dead after early morning fully involved fire

A Rhode Island man was found dead this morning after where he was staying was found engulfed in flames.

At approximately 1:00 a.m., members of the Charlestown Police Department along with Charlestown Fire Department and Charlestown Ambulance Service, responded to the report of a travel trailer fire on the property of 10 Center Street, Charlestown.

According to Charlestown Police, the first arriving police officers observed a travel trailer located on the property, next to the house, was fully engulfed in flames. Police officers quickly determined that the male occupant of the trailer was unaccounted for and believed to still be inside.

The Charlestown Fire Department quickly extinguished the fire. Human remains of a middle-aged man were located inside the fire scene. The Office of the Rhode Island State Fire Marshall and the Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s Officer were notified and responded. The fire victim was later positively identified as the known occupant, 42-year-old Eric Fahlman, of Wood River Junction, Rhode Island.

Fahlman was being remembered by those who knew him as a great man with a big heart.

The fire remains under investigation by the Charlestown Police Department and the Rhode Island State Fire Marshall’s Office.
