There's been a promising update for the long-running Spawn movie, with the addition of Marvel and Joker writers joining the project.
The adaption of Todd McFarlane's comic book series, which has been in the works since 2017, is getting a new lease of life with Joker's Scott Silver, Captain America 4's Malcolm Spellman and Matt Mixon joining the project.
In a statement confirming his involvement with the project, Spellman revealed, per The Hollywood Reporter, that the character was "one of his favourites".
"I grew up in Berkeley, which is a comic book city. Todd McFarlane’s Spawn character was always one of my favorites — a Black superhero that was no bulls**t, he was cool and dealt with modern issues," he said.

"Myself, Matt Mixon, and Scott Silver are pledged to honouring what Todd started and what Spawn is at its core, delivering something that’s relevant and edgy and unlike any other superhero movie out there."
In the comics, Spawn is Al Simmons, who has been resurrected after making a deal with the devil. Jamie Foxx is still thought to be playing the titular character in the upcoming adaptation, while Hawkeye's Jeremy Renner was also set to feature in the film – but his involvement is still unconfirmed.

The Spawn reboot has been in the works for a number of years, with McFarlane previously reassuring fans that the project hadn't been abandoned.
"I know that people are saying that, 'Todd, you talk a lot about the movie and the Hollywood stuff and nothing's really happening,' and that's not true," he told Joe Q’s Mornin’ Warm Up with Joe Quesada in 2020.
"I can tell you right now there is momentum going on Spawn, the movie, and I'm not just saying that from my end."
