Suspect accused of stabbing Hyattsville man 17 times turns himself in to police

HYATTSVILLE, Md. (7News) —
The man suspected of stabbing another man on Saturday, Oct. 1 in Hyattsville turned himself in to the Upper Marlboro Dept. of Corrections, police said.

Rene Morales, of Hyattsville, faces attempted murder charges for stabbing a man 17 times, police said. The victim remains in critical condition.

Police have determined the incident began with a verbal dispute inside of a restaurant on the 3100 block of Hamilton Street. The dispute led to a physical altercation outside of the business where police said Morales stabbed the victim multiple times.

The victim then approached an off-duty Hyattsville detective near the intersection of 31st Avenue and Hamilton Street to seek help, police said.
