House said a series of 'serious situations' had greatly impacted her mental health as a Burlington City councilperson.

Burlington City Councilor Ali House announced her immediate resignation on Wednesday, citing a series of recent "serious situations" that have impacted her mental health.House, who is the city council representative for Burlington's 8th Ward, released a statement on Wednesday to Burlington City Attorney Kimberlee J. Sturtevant announcing her resignation. "For my own personal safety and well-being I can't make any further comments at this time," Hous said in the statement.In a subsequent note to members of the public, House said the following:"Over the last few months, several serious situations have made it difficult for me to carry out my council duties, and my mental health has been impacted in many ways. I would appreciate space from the public as I heal from these experiences. I will not be giving any further comments at this time. "There are considerable barriers that exist for young people serving in office, and that has been no different in my case. Under current circumstances I can't continue to serve Ward 8 effectively as a city councilor. "Being an elected official may not be a sustainable organizing practice right now, but my promise to our community is that I will never stop fighting for collective liberation and justice. The process may be slow, but there is hope so long as we raise our voices together. I hope you can continue to join me in the fight."House is the second member of Burlington's City Council to resign in less than a month, following an announcement from Jack Hanson that he would be leaving to apply for a job with the city at the Burlington Electric Department.

Burlington City Councilor Ali House announced her immediate resignation on Wednesday, citing a series of recent "serious situations" that have impacted her mental health.

House, who is the city council representative for Burlington's 8th Ward, released a statement on Wednesday to Burlington City Attorney Kimberlee J. Sturtevant announcing her resignation.

"For my own personal safety and well-being I can't make any further comments at this time," Hous said in the statement.
