On Tuesday night, New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge smashed a home run into deep left field against the Texas Rangers to break Roger Maris’ American League single-season home run record. It was undoubtedly the biggest home run, and the sports story of the evening – but don’t tell that to the Detroit Tigers.
During the top of the fifth inning, the Tigers found themselves trailing the Seattle Mariners by a score of 4-1. But Detriot third baseman Kody Clemens changed that with one swing of a bat. With the bases loaded and one out, Clemens sent a 1-2 pitch deep into right field to put the Tigers on top by a score of 5-4.
The massive home run gave the Detroit Tigers a reason to celebrate on Twitter – and also to troll Judge a little bit.
“You will not watch a more momentous home run than this tonight,” the Tigers Tweeted on Tuesday night, in reference to Judge’s historic homer earlier in the week.
It was quite a bold claim by the Tigers, and the Major League Baseball world had plenty to say about it as a result.
Well played, Tigers. https://t.co/9pjDAk4EZI

While the home did give the Tigers the lead at the time, Detroit couldn’t stay on top and eventually fell to the Seahawks by a score of 9-6.
