Late Thursday evening the truck believed to belong to missing person Donald Messier was retrieved out of the Winooski River.
Vermont State Police arrived on the scene at 9:00 a.m. It took roughly nine hours for them to tow the car out.
Around 10:16 p.m. on Thursday, officials confirmed that the vehicle belong to Messier.
An examination of the vehicle located personal effects, but investigators have uncovered no obvious human remains at this point in the search, according to their statement on the search.
The investigation is ongoing and state police are now looking to identify additional evidence that might help them locate Messier as they further examine the truck.
Officials were originally notified of a potential new piece of evidence in the 16-year-old disappearance case of Donald Messier on Wednesday after the group Adventures with Purpose found the truck submerged in the water in Waterbury.
Donald Messier is a 34-year-old Waitsfield man who was reported missing by family members on Oct. 18, 2006, according to Vermont State Police. He was last seen in the early morning hours of Oct. 15, 2006, at a party in Waitsfield.
Donald did not show up to work on that following Monday or make any contact with friends or family since that day in October. Family reported that Donald was depressed and possibly suicidal, according to his file on the Vermont State Police website.
Neither Donald nor his red 1997 Ford F-150 pickup truck had been seen since.
