A CVS employee’s neck was slashed when he tried to stop a suspect from stealing items from a store in Southeast, D.C. Tuesday afternoon, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
"I'll stab you," police said the suspect stated when the employee intervened.
The suspect then threw the stolen items and left the store at 661 Pennsylvania Avenue Southeast, according to a D.C. Police report.
While a witness was on the phone with 9-1-1, the suspect came back into the store.
“This will get you killed,” the suspect warned the employee, and then stabbed him in the neck before fleeing the store, police said.
When officers arrived, the employee was actively bleeding. He was able to talk with the officers.
Police say the suspect was captured by a nearby surveillance camera and can be seen in the photos below:
D.C. Fire and EMS performed first aid and took the wounded employee to a hospital.
A CVS spokesperson confirmed Wednesday morning that an employee had been stabbed and remained in the hospital. She said CVS is cooperating with D.C. Police in the investigation.
The store was back open Wednesday morning, the spokesperson added.
