Tamaqua family rebuilding after home lost to fire

When fire tore through a home at 528 Arlington St. in Tamaqua last week, it left nothing behind.

“I lost everything in the fire,” said Queen Elizabeth Turay.

She is thankful that she, her husband and their four boys, ages 5, 4 and 2 years old and 11 months, were able to escape without harm.

But now the family needs to rebuild.

Thanks to a community effort, Turay said her children have enough clothes.

“The baby got a stroller, play pen and high chair,” she said.

Turay has a few clothes, she said, but her husband needs clothing in size large.

“If anyone can donate anything - household items, too, I would really appreciate that as well,” she said.

Turay is grateful for any donations, and said they can be dropped off at the Tamaqua Salvation Army, 46 Mauch Chunk St.

She’s especially grateful for Daphnee Zoffka, who organized a separate collection from her soon-to-open store, Jupiter’s Dust, at 301 W. Broad St., Tamaqua.

“She is an amazing lady,” Turay said. “People mainly donated there at her store.”

Zoffka continues to collect items and will open the store Saturday to accept donations. She even helped the family find a new home in New Philadelphia.

Turay said they expect to move in this week.

The fire was ruled accidental and started in the home’s kitchen. It spread to an adjoining property at 530 Arlington St.
