Constable shot in New Orleans East

A shooting in New Orleans East sent a cop and a property manager to the hospital today.

A deputy constable, who was attempting to serve an eviction notice in the area, was shot in the shoulder. The property manager was shot in the chest. NOPD Chief Shaun Ferguson says they are both in stable condition.

NOPD closed down the I-10 from New Orleans East to Downtown New Orleans to get the deputy constable to University Medical Center.

The property manager went to New Orleans East Hospital initially, but was later transported to UMC.

Police have converged in the area of Coronet Court near Lake Forest Blvd. and deployed a JPSO helicopter in the area to search for the suspect or suspects. NOPD SWAT, US Marshals and FBI agents are also on the scene.

First City Court Constable Lambert Boissiere Jr. tells NOLA.com the injured officer is Deputy Constable Warren Smith, a longtime officer who formerly served in the New Orleans Police Department.
