Over 1 million front-line workers in Minnesota are set to receive one-time payments of $487.45 beginning Wednesday.

The payments are part of the Frontline Worker Pay bill, which allocated $500 million for a “thank you” payment from the state for their work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Gov. Tim Walz signed the Frontline Worker Pay bill in April.

“I’m grateful for the work Minnesotans did to help people across our state stay healthy and safe through the COVID-19 pandemic,” Walz said in a statement Monday. “Frontline workers are an important part of the fabric of our state and helped us continue functioning during the pandemic. Now, I’m proud to say these workers will receive $487.45 in recognition from the State of Minnesota.”

Online applications for the payments were open from June 8 until July 22, with the state saying it reviewed nearly 1.2 million applications. In total, 1,025,655 front-line workers will receive the state-issued payments beginning Wednesday through the rest of the fall.
