LUNENBURG, MASS. (WHDH) - A firefighter from the Ayer Fire Department was injured while battling a fire on Highland Street in Lunenburg early Wednesday morning, said Lunenburg Fire Chief Patrick Sullivan.

Sullivan said crews received a call for a garage fire at 135 Highland Street at 2 a.m. Wednesday. The first units to arrive found heavy flames in the garage that had extended into all levels of the home and a second alarm was struck for additional assistance. Crews put out the fire in 30 minutes, but officials said the home sustained serious damage and is uninhabitable. The three occupants were uninjured but one firefighter from the Ayer Fire Department sustained a shoulder injury.

The fire remains under investigation by the Lunenburg Fire Department and the Office of the State Fire Marshal but is believed to be accidental, Sullivan said.
