Perhaps it was the ballet pump. Or the wax jacket. Or the nana nightie. But there were enough Alexa Chungisms on the spring/summer 2023 runways to fill a VIP teepee at Glastonbury. Maybe moodboards are vibrating to the guitar riffs of Indie mixtapes. Perhaps it’s time for a Popworld revival. Or maybe our appreciation of Chung’s style is as eternal as the classic wardrobe pieces she continually reinterprets.
Here, the runway pieces we’re bound to see her sporting come spring…
The wax jacket
Alexa sat front row at Loewe’s spring/summer 2023 in Paris, and we’re sure she’d have sized up the gently flared wax jackets on the Spanish brand’s catwalk. After all, she celebrated her final collection for Barbour last month, with an outdoor east London dinner party in the rain – how fitting for a pillar of festival fashion.
The ballet pump
Alexa’s a die-hard fan of fashion’s take on the dainty dancer flat (hello Miu Miu), but she’s also been spotted with actual ballet shoes slung around her shoulders post barre workout. Her next on point(e) pumps? Tod’s striking spring/summer 2023 style in sunburst yellow.
The denim shorts
Chung is the doyenne of denim, particularly when it is imagined in micro proportions. A pair we’d love to see her strutting around Worthy Farm in? Diesel’s ‘D’ logo styles are dramatically daring.
The nightie
“Plan to haunt you from the end of the bed in this one,” Chung captioned an Instagram photo that found her wearing a Victorian night gown. There’s no chance of her being ghosted in this spring/summer 2023 Prada number – just one of many nana nighties to waft down the catwalks.
The oversized suiting
Alexa lets her androgynous side do the talking when she’s decked out in mannish tailoring. An oversized suit also salutes one of her style icons, Patti Smith. This oversized Stella McCartney suit makes for a headline act.
The LBD
Chung is a master of the demure and the daring – as demonstrated by the breath of LBDs that dominate her Instagram feed. We’re keen for her to dial up the drama in this spring/summer 2023 Lanvin slip, which boasts bold architectural volume.
The tweed jacket
There are too many cult Chanel moments to list here, but Chung in candyfloss-pink tweed is perhaps the prettiest. On the spring/summer 2023 runway, a similarly saccharine jacket was paired with punky fishnet socks – a combination that has Alexa written all over it.
