Tampa Police: Multiple Shots Fired Into Vehicle With Homeless Family Of Five Asleep Inside

The Tampa Police Department is currently investigating a shooting that occurred early this morning near 2200 N Oregon Ave.

TAMPA, Fla. – The Tampa Police Department is currently investigating a shooting that occurred early this morning near 2200 N Oregon Ave. and needs your help.

Tampa Police Chief Mary O’Connor said that a homeless family of five, consisting of 3 young children, a father, and a pregnant mother of nine months, were asleep in a car when an unknown vehicle approached around 4:30 a.m.

Police say the suspect vehicle pulled up, opened fire on the car, and drove off.

O’Conner added that the shooting appears to be a random act and the family did not appear to be targeted.

According to police, the car that the family was sleeping in, was concealed having t-shirts in the windows and a sun visor in the front window of the car.

O’Connor said the mother was grazed by a bullet and is expected to make a full recovery. No one else was inured in the shooting.

“We need whoever knows you know anything that that would help us lead to the identity, of getting these violent criminals off the street to let us know and we’re happy to again keep it confidential,” said O’Conner.

“We do have a place for the family to go once she’s (mother) is released from the hospital,” said O’Connor
