DETROIT (WWJ) - A minor traffic crash turned into a close call for one driver after he encountered gunfire on I-94 in Detroit on Tuesday evening.

Michigan State Police said a male driver called 911 to report a hit and run crash around 8 p.m. on the ramp from I-94 to I-75. The driver said it was a rear end crash that did involve some minor damage.

He was determined as the non-at-fault driver by police.

But the other driver, said to be at-fault by authorities, took off from the scene.

The victim followed the vehicle and was able to get close enough to capture a photo of the license plate.

He then pulled up next to the suspect and yelled out the window for them to pull over.

The suspect did not comply and allegedly produced a gun and fired once, hitting the front passenger door.

The suspect then fled the scene, again.

Troopers said the incident remains under police investigation and no additional details were released.

There are no reports of injuries at this time.
