Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

A warrant was issued for 33-year-old Jasper Lee Austin of Delight for failure to appear during his pre-trial hearing Monday in the Circuit Court of Pike County. Austin’s trial date is November 3.

Austin was arrested in May of 2021 after being stopped by a Pike County Deputy for having a temporary tag that was faded and difficult to read. Following an ACIC check, Austin was placed in the back of the patrol unit and the deputy conducted an inventory search of the vehicle.

During the search, the deputy discovered a glass smoking device that contained a white residue of suspected methamphetamine under the driver’s seat and a ripped plastic bag beneath the accelerator and brake pedals that contained a white powder that was scattered on the floor board.

Austin has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a suspended license, no liability insurance and failure to register vehicle.
