All-night Washington County SWAT situation ends with suspect in custody

Incident began around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday

A suspect was taken into custody after nearly seven hours following a SWAT situation in North Strabane.The incident began around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday when SWAT officers were called to the 500 block of Ash Street.A spokesperson for AHN said Canonsburg Hospital was placed on lockdown during the incident. However, as of early Wednesday morning, the lockdown was fully lifted.The suspect, identified as 53-year-old Lance Stumpf, was taken into custody after 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.According to the criminal complaint Stumpf had been threatening to die by suicide and warned he would shoot any officers that approached his home. The complaint said Stumpf is a convicted felon with a prior 302 mental health commitment. He faces charges of terroristic threats and illegal possession of a firearm.
