I used to be a regular contributor to the brilliant Corrie suspension of reality thread here, but I haven’t been able to drag myself to watch the show in over a year.
If only they thought more about what they are writing then we might be getting somewhere with the plots. Not one person on Leo’s rugby team wonders why he did not turn up to his stag do or has not been in touch. Things like that make it hard to take it seriously and watch. Add in scenes that try to be funny and aren’t and it all makes it hard to care about it.
Classic Corrie on ITV3 still runs rings around present day Corrie.
One of the most iconic villains Corrie ever had - Richard Hillman - is now in it.
Most villains since Richard have been very poor in comparison.
Yes, it was good then when a murderer on the street was something that hadn’t been done before. This new storyline with Stephen is going to go on a long time I fear with lots more disbelief still to come.
The last three episodes have been absolutely dreadful even by recent standards. At least there will be a break after tomorrow.
Disagree about Sister Bailey. She was a pain after five seconds. The whole walk in, and immediately play the hero storyline was contrived nonsense. She also looks a total mess. All that unflattering leather stuff, and tonight a pair of earrings she might have borrowed off Gemma.
People here literally complain about every storyline. Corrie could produce the greatest piece of television ever and people would call it shit.
I agree. It's the same people on every thread. They put themselves through the torture of watching every episode just to come on here slating it. Its pathetic!

If that were true, which I don't think it is, would that be worse than playing games with the forum? People can watch whatever they want, and if they think it's dreadful there's nothing wrong in calling it out. What's the point in pretending something is good?

No, I don't think they do. They are just sad and angry that what was "must see" telly has been allowed to sink so low. I have followed it consistently since the 1980s when I got married. Before that I thought it was for "old people" I think, along with many posters on here that Corrie is chasing the wrong demographic. None of my family under 40 would dream of watching it - it's just not for them. But just because I'm the wrong side of fifty doesn't mean I expect to be condescended to with ridiculous far-fetched plots and embarrassing actors/acting. There must be some up and coming talented writers along the lines of Jack Rosenthal and Paul Abbott who both wrote for Corrie in their early careers, out there. Go out and find them Corrie! Give them a chance and let the show go back to its roots of tight plots, engaging scripts and strong characters.
Aggie is a nurse. She will deal with any resuscitations and more or less any medical or psychiatric problem too.
She's a nurse you know, who can't cook. Did we mention that?
It's in a mess I agree. They have stupid stories that have peoplke doing very stupid things and I keep going why atre they doing that, saying that, thinking that. You have some people have story after story that see's them doing the same things all the time. You've got stories that could be over in a few episodes going on and on. The police seem to be in the Street all the time and people seem to be in court and the hospital all the time. You've got people in trouble with the police all the time like Abi and Garry and they seem to get off all the time. You've got the story with Gemma's quads that you never see and hardly hear now. You have people in public places saying stuff that they shouldn't be saying outside and the person they're talking about manages to over hear. They don't want to bump into someone and they go out and blow me there's the person they don't want to meet. Or they have someone they're trying to find to ask them something or tell them something and in a very short time they find them usually in that little garden with a park bench sitting there looking very sad or crying. People looking for a job usually get one in the factory or the Rovers just a few days after needing one. And someone needing a place to stay can always bet someone with an already over crowded small house will say you can have a bed for the night with me and then they end up staying. You've got peopl at deaths door one minute and the familly and friends think theey're going to die and then with in a week they're out of hospital and OK. Take this week and the James Bailey story. He nearly died because of his collapsing because of his heart. But in just over a week he was fit and well again and off to London to coach some children at a school. I could go on and on but you get the picture.

They could instantly improve it by agreeing not do any more murder plots.
Recently we have had no less than four of them. Toyah in court, Stu trying to prove his innocence, Kelly trying to kill Gary because he murdered her dad then changing her mind and Stephen bumping off Leo.
There are a lot of weaknesses and it is tough doing six episodes a week but constant sensationalism is not the answer.

As I said elsewhere last week, I'd love to love it and did for a long time but recently TPTB are making it really difficult for me to love it at the moment.
The obvious answer is quality over quantity and TBH I loved three episodes a week in COVID times. The problem is ITV is revenue driven and soaps are considered cash cows where advertising is concerned so the reduction of episodes won't happen any time soon.
I wonder if there is a viewer cliff edge where once numbers get below a certain level ITV Towers will take action?

That will never come as there is a hard core audience that will keep it afloat. You only have to look at some of the nonsense people post about on here to realise that it's an addiction for some people (my wife is one) who will watch come what may.

Because there's no subtlety - it's all drama. The writers have clearly forgotten that this is supposed to be a soap - the lives of everyday people. Are the advertizers demanding shock s/ls to get us talking - they don't care if the talk is good or bad - so long as it isn't indifferent.
Needs a new producer soon just don't know who it will be knowing ITV it will be Jane Hudson and co who have ruined Emmerdale in the last couple of years a lot of axing's needed in the next couple of months I reckon I could find about 10-15 characters I'd axe and a lot of these storylines are dreadful. Stephens serial killer storyline is bad as literally every other soap has just had a serial killer it starts to get a bit boring at least give it a year or two. Stu's justice storyline has a great plot but the characters included are soooo boring I'm fed up of the same character with a secret (Stu,Spider and Stephen) or the really over enthusiastic annoying Sean Tully type character (Dee-Dee,Glenda) I don't mind the Brian and Mary comedy but the play storyline is dreadful especially as its clearly just pull Wendy and Ken together which I wouldn't mind but only if it caused huge friction with the Barlows but it won't it will last a week and fizzle out with no Tracey vs Wendy war which what I want to see.

I like Dee too. She’s a breath of fresh air for the Baileys. That stuff with Brian though…😬😬😬

Great post, I entirely agree.

That's because it is shit! You can't in all honesty tell me there was any part of last night's episode that was good.
