An attempt by Uniontown sheriff's deputies to take a man into custody ended with him in the hospital Monday.
A video sent to Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 shows the moments after 34-year-old Anthony Sheffey was shot with a stun gun outside of the county courthouse.
The Fayette County sheriff says Sheffey, with a warrant out of Allegheny County, ran from the courthouse while officers tried to take him into custody before eventually using a stun gun outside the courthouse.
Sheffey was in the courthouse for a hearing on another case. Officers went to take him into custody when they learned he had an active warrant for a DUI case out of Allegheny County.
The sheriff tells us Sheffey initially cooperated but ran as he was being taken into custody, leading to the incident outside. Sheffey ultimately had to be flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia.
Video showing the moments after the stun gun was deployed was circulating on social media Tuesday.
Sheffey's mother told Pittsburgh's Action News 4 that her son has a fractured skull and ribs. She says he also suffered a seizure after being hit with the stun gun.
She told us initially she just wanted to know what happened, and she wanted to know now. The family is going to let the process play out, and she's hoping her son can make a full recovery.
The sheriff told Pittsburgh's Action News 4 that the investigation into the incident is ongoing, and more charges could be filed down the road.
