Gun confiscated from student at Central High School
Louisville Metro Police Department was contacted after reports of a student with a gun at Central High School on Tuesday.
Central's principal Tamela Compton sent out a letter to parents notifying them that a gun was confiscated from a student.
"This afternoon, administrators were notified that it appeared a student had a weapon in their possession," the letter reads. "School administrators immediately heightened our building security level and contacted JCPS Security and LMPD. During the investigation, a gun was found."
Compton said that this incident was isolated and only involved one student.
The student will be disciplined according to the Student Support and Behavior Intervention Handbook.
In accordance with the handbook, this could be a level three or four offense.
Compton also said this is an opportunity for parents to reinforce that weapons should never be brought to school.
