Man charged, in custody after hours-long standoff in Washington County

NORTH STRABANE, Pa. — A man is in custody following a long standoff in Washington County.

Around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to reports of a man threatening to harm himself in North Strabane Township.

A Washington County 911 operator confirmed the man was at a residence on Ash Street, which is located close to AHN Canonsburg Hospital.

The North Strabane Township fire department posted on their social media page that Boone Avenue and the surrounding area was closed from South Central Avenue to the Boone Avenue bridge. The area includes Medical Boulevard, which is where the hospital is located.

The incident started just after 7:30 p.m.

Channel 11′s Rich Pierce said SWAT vehicles arrived in the area of the Canon-McMillan Alumni Bridge.

Law enforcement officials said they talked to the man throughout the night. A 911 dispatcher told us he was taken into custody around 3 a.m. Wednesday.
