An arrest has been made after an officer-involved shooting involving an Indiana State Police Excise Officer.

The shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sep. 29, when the excise officer began following the suspect vehicle.

The driver got out of the vehicle at Rockne Drive and North Jacob Street and opened fire in front of the officer’s vehicle.

The officer returned fire, but did not pursue the suspect, who took off.

The investigation led police to an apartment on Hickory Road in Mishawaka on Tuesday night. That’s where officers arrested Ian Steven McDonald Austin, 20, of South Bend.

Austin was arrested on a preliminary charge of attempted murder and taken to the St. Joseph County Jail.
