Fan jumps railing to try and catch Aaron Judge’s 62nd home run, misses by a mile (Video)

Aaron Judge cranked his record-breaking 62nd home run at Globe Life Field against the Rangers and one fan made a valiant but ill-fated attempt to catch it.

The honorable Aaron Judge now presides over the American League home run record by himself.

On Tuesday night in the second game of a doubleheader against the Texas Rangers, Judge led off the game and made sure to not let the chase last any longer. The slugger smashed a pitch 391 feet over the fence in left-center to get his 62nd of the year.

And with that, he wrote his name in Sharpie in Yankees and baseball lore as he passed another pinstriped legend, Roger Maris, for the AL record.

In case you couldn’t see it in the brief clip of the fans as the ball traveled over the fence, though, one fan went all out trying to be the one who caught the record-breaking piece of history. The only problem was that they couldn’t have been less close to actually making the catch as they tumbled over the railing.

That fan gets an A for effort but it would’ve been better if they were remotely close to actually making the play. We do have to hope they’re okay after a fall like that, though.

In all seriousness, though, it’s no shock that the rush for Judge’s home run ball caused a fan to have that reaction and, frankly, it’s a bit shocking there weren’t more fans doing the same. There have been valuations of the piece of history sitting around $2 million for what they could receive at auction if they chose to go that route.

Again, we hope the fan is okay, but it’s hard not to consider this a humorous sidenote to Judge making history.
