Sewage bubbling up and into yards in Winter Park neighborhood
On South Lakemont Avenue in Winter Park, there is a stinky and unsanitary situation going on.
Sewage water is bubbling up from the manhole covers and floating onto peoples' front and back yards. Some neighbors are telling WESH that sewage came up through their toilet and into the house.
What is going on? The city of Winter Park says the massive amount of rain from the hurricane has overwhelmed the city's sanitary system.
"It's bad, it's unsanitary, because it's not just the water, you can see the poop floating and pieces of toilet tissue. It looked like a fountain, it looks like a fountain and it is sewage water," resident Beatriz Parmar said.
"Our lift stations are doing everything they can, they're functioning at full capacity," the city of Winter Park wrote in an email.
So, in the meantime, they're asking everyone in Winter Park to slow down water consumption. In other words try not to flush the toilet as much, don't use the dishwasher, and make your showers quick.
