It was opening day for a small café tucked away in Lima Senior High School.
The Spartan Inn is the pride and joy of the Lima City Schools culinary and food service management program. The restaurant is run by the students as they learn the fundamentals of the food industry with hands-on real work experience. The students say it is an experience that exceeds their expectations.
"I came into the culinary arts because I wanted to work on my cooking skills and it seemed like something that would help me in a very educational and a fun experience as well," said Shaniya Webb, junior in charge of desserts.
"Well, I really enjoy cooking and was always messing around in the kitchen at home. I wanted to get better so I just joined culinary," said Malachi Nichols, junior in charge of hot food.
The Spartan Inn is open to the public on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. when school is in session. They offer a buffet-style menu for only 8 dollars that includes a hot bar, soups, salad, dessert, and a drink. You can dine in or carry out.
