WHAT IT WAS LIKE FOR STUDENTS. WE’RE OUTSIDE THE MAIN ENTRANCE WHERE THE CAMPUS REMAINS CLOSED. I WANT TO SHOW YOU WHERE SOME OF THE BULLET HOLES HIT. JUST FEET FROM THE FRONT DOOR, ONE OF MANY BULLET HOLES AROUND THE BUILDING. AND THIS IS ANOTHER BULLET HOLE. ONLY THIS ONE IS ON THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE BUILDING, SHOWING THE DISTANCE TRAVELED IN THIS SHOOTING, MORE THAN 100 YARDS FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OTHER. ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THESE GARAGE DOORS, A HIGH SCHOOL AUTO COLLISION CLASS WAS IN SESSION MONDAY. AUSTIN RICE SAYS THINGS GOT SERIOUS FAST. YOU SEE A CAR COMES SQUEALING TIRES. AND THE NEXT THING WE KNOW HERE, WE HEAR SHOTS AND THEN WE SEE THE WINDOW SHATTER AND WE ALL GOT DOWN. THESE ARE SOME OF THE BULLET HOLES RIGHT OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM. SOME WENT THROUGH THE GLASS. OTHERS ARE AT A LEVEL. PEOPLE COULD BE STANDING OR WORKING ON. THE OTHER SIDE. IT WAS SHOCKING, KIND OF UNREAL WHEN WE HEARD THIS PARENT DOESN’T THINK THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE SHOOTING WAS COMMUNICATED TO FAMILIES. SHE SAYS IT WAS A LOT MORE THAN SHOTS FIRED OUTSIDE THE D-BACKS OUTREACH CENTER, WHICH WAS THE STATEMENT SHE SAW. NOBODY WAS MENTIONING THAT THE SHOTS WENT THROUGH A CLASSROOM WHERE MY SON AND OTHER CHILDREN WERE. AND THAT’S FRUSTRATING AND SCARY. SECURITY WAS HIGHLY VISIBLE THROUGHOUT THE DAY. TUESDAY, THOUGH, THERE WAS NO CLASS THAT’S EXPECTED TO CONTINUE WHEN STUDENTS RETURN. I FEEL SAFE. THERE’S NORMALLY A LOT OF SECURITY AROUND YOU TO SEE SECURITY GUARDS CIRCLING THE PARKING LOTS AND EVERYTHING. WE HAVE A SECURITY GUARD, A COUPLE CLASSROOMS DOWN NOW, DIMOCK TOLD US. IT DIDN’T REALIZE UNTIL TUESDAY MORNING THAT BULLETS WENT THROUGH THE CLASSROOM BECAUSE THE AREA HAD BEEN BLOCKED OFF FOR INVESTIGATION. AGAIN, NO STUDENTS WERE HURT AT SOUTH RIDGE, ANDREW MOLLENBECK CASES HIGH EIGHT NEWS IOWA’S NEWS LEADER CLASSES AT THE DIMOCK SOU

Bullets flew through a high school classroom during a shooting outside the DMACC Southridge Center Monday, though families and even the college itself were not immediately aware of where the bullets entered. An auto collision class with students from several area high schools had multiple bullets go through it. "We see a car come squealing its tires and the next thing we know, we hear shots and we see the windows shattering and we all got down," said Austin Rice, a student at Carlisle High School. Police said Monday at least 20 rounds were fired in the shooting. No student or faculty member was hurt. "It was shocking. Kind of unreal when we heard," said a parent who asked not to be named. "Nobody was mentioning that the shots went through a classroom where my son and other children were. And that's frustrating and scary."DMACC said its administration was unaware until Tuesday morning that the shots entered the classroom, noting that the area had been an active police investigation Monday evening. Classes will resume at the Southridge campus later in the week.
