Bullets flew through a high school classroom during a shooting outside the DMACC Southridge Center Monday, though families and even the college itself were not immediately aware of where the bullets entered.
An auto collision class with students from several area high schools had multiple bullets go through it.
"We see a car come squealing its tires and the next thing we know, we hear shots and we see the windows shattering and we all got down," said Austin Rice, a student at Carlisle High School.
Police said Monday at least 20 rounds were fired in the shooting. No student or faculty member was hurt.
"It was shocking. Kind of unreal when we heard," said a parent who asked not to be named. "Nobody was mentioning that the shots went through a classroom where my son and other children were. And that's frustrating and scary."
DMACC said its administration was unaware until Tuesday morning that the shots entered the classroom, noting that the area had been an active police investigation Monday evening.
Classes will resume at the Southridge campus later in the week.
