The Norfolk girls golf team came up just short of qualifying for next week's Class A state tournament as a team but two Panthers did qualify as individuals.
At Tuesday's A-3 district at Fair Play Golf Course south of Norfolk, the Panthers finished fourth, 10 shots behind third-place finisher Omaha Westside, which earned the district's final team-qualifying spot.
"Coming into today, if you had told me we're going to shoot 365, I would've taken that and took my chances that Omaha Westside wouldn't have shot as well as they did," Norfolk coach Lance Kosch said.
The 365 was Norfolk's lowest score this season.
The top 10 individuals also qualify for state and two Panthers - Mailin Bertus and Maddi Fineran - fired rounds of 86 which tied for 10th and both will compete at the state meet next Monday and Tuesday at the Norfolk Country Club.
Norfolk's Becca Asbury shot a 93 and Kosch said she had a chance to qualify as a wildcard. She'll find out on Wednesday.Â
Lincoln East easily won the team race with a score of 316 and will be among the favorites at next week's state tournament. On Tuesday, the Spartan golfers finished 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 individually. Elly Honnens earned medalist honors with a 75. Â
