Police recovered a Glock pistol in Lake Champlain, near Perkins Pier on Tuesday evening. They believe it was used in both of Sunday night's shootings.
Acting Burlington Police Chief Jon Murad said the weapon was recovered by a Vermont State Police diving team.
The discovery came as the South Burlington Police Department works to compile additional forensics and witness statements along with video evidence before charging 52-year-old Denroy Dasent for allegedly killing 37-year-old Brian Billings.
Jordan Martin was Billings’ next-door neighbor.
“The shots went off right next to my head, mine and my wife’s head,” recounted Martin, who’s still shocked at what happened. “I would not expect this. He’s a family man,” he said.
Dasent has also been charged with second-degree murder for allegedly killing Shiekhnoor Osman at a Pine Street apartment on Sunday.
Dasent pleaded not guilty on Monday. At the end of the arraignment, he said “I need to get in touch with my wife so I can get some dollars in my books.”
According to the affidavit, Dasent lives in South Burlington and owns Island Passion Foods at the University Mall with his wife.
