Contrary to reports, Khamzat Chimaev doesn’t have any travel restrictions, says his manager Majdi Shammas.

On Tuesday, Combate would report that the UFC Welterweight star was unable to leave Russia after having his passport seized by authorities. According to the outlet, Chimaev was supposed to fly to Brazil to catch a film premiere on BJJ legend Fernando Terere. However, those plans went south when Russia came recruiting soldiers for the ongoing war against Ukraine.
Chimaev was out visiting family in St. Petersburg when the military confiscated his passport. Chimaev’s team allegedly reached out to the Swedish government to help bring their fighter back home.
Shammas Shuts Down These Reports
Not long after the news came out of Chimaev’s troubles in Russia, ESPN’s Brett Okamoto would report this was simply not the case. Okamoto cited Chimaev’s manager told him these reports were ‘not true’. Chimaev does happen to be visiting Russia but his passport has not been taken away by anybody.
“I just spoke to Khamzat Chimaev’s (@KChimaev) manager Majdi Shammas, who told me reports of Khamzat being stuck in Russia with a revoked passport are not true,” Okamato wrote. “Khamzat is in Russia, but there are ‘no problems’ with any travel restrictions according to Shammas.”

Chimaev To Start Training Camp Soon
‘Borz’ would also reach out to the ESPN reporter, saying he’ll return to Sweden in a couple weeks for a training camp.
