(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The FBI is asking for the public’s help — and offering a reward — to track down a Florida native who is wanted for “sextortion” crimes targeting minors.

An arrest warrant was issued in Chicago federal court earlier this year for David Patrick Sheffield on the charge of Interstate Communication of Threats, the FBI announced Tuesday.

He allegedly used social media apps to approach minors and solicit sexually explicit photographs and videos for payment. In one case, Sheffield made explicit threats to direct and live-stream the violent murder of a minor and that minor’s family, authorities say.

Sheffield, who was born in Florida, is believed to be armed and dangerous. He has ties to other cities across the U.S. and has used aliases that include David White, Damien White, Damien Donahue and Craiger Strout.

Sheffield has a nautical star tattoo on his chest and a tattoo of cursive writing and a checkered emblem on his right forearm. There are scars on his left arm and leg, the FBI said.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI. Authorities also wish to hear from people who were victimized by Sheffield.
