A bicycle rider was struck and killed Tuesday in Southeast Portland, police officials said.
The crash was reported at about 11:50 a.m. near the intersection of Southeast 26th Avenue and Powell Boulevard, near Cleveland High School.
Arriving officers say they found a bicyclist dead. They say she was a woman in her 40s.
The driver stayed at the scene and is working with police.
Powell Boulevard is closed between Southeast 25th and 27th avenues for a crash investigation.
Portland Police said they wanted to address concerns from the community that since it was near a school, the person may have been a student.
"Although we cannot yet release the name of the victim, we feel it is in the public's interest to disclose that the victim was an adult female in her forties, and not a high school student," Portland Police said.
Authorities will withhold the person's name until family members have been notified of her death.
