Chillicothe, Iowa man airlifted after home explosion

According to Wapello County Sheriff Don Philips, they received a 911 call around noon today of a home explosion on High Street.
CHILLICOTHE, Iowa —
A southeast Iowa man was severely burned after his home exploded in Chillicothe, Iowa.

According to Wapello County Sheriff Don Phillips, they received a 911 call around noon Tuesday of a home explosion on High Street.
When crews arrived, a portion of the home was nearly leveled.
The man injured was airlifted by medical helicopter to an unknown hospital after suffering severe burns. According to Phillips, the man was responsive and coherent before being airlifted.
The injured man says he was the only one in the house during the explosion.

The Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office will continue its investigation to figure out what caused the explosion.
