CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Hillside man arrested 10 years ago and accused of trying to set off a bomb outside a downtown tavern now wants to change his plea.

Arrested when he was 18, Adel Daoud is now 29 years old.

The federal prisons website shows he’s still an inmate at the Metropolitan Correctional Center.

The FBI says Daoud tried to set off a bomb outside a bar at the corner of Van Buren and Wells Streets in 2012.

The bomb was a dummy — put there by the FBI.

Daoud pleaded guilty in 2018.

With that plea, Daoud admitted to the facts of the case but denied blame.

He was sentenced to 16 years in prison, but a higher court overturned that, saying, basically, the sentence was too lenient.

Now — with a new attorney and before a new judge — Daoud wants to change his plea and go to trial.
