The Shelby Coyotes football team celebrated Homecoming with a dominant 70-8 victory over the Rocky Boy Stars. Coach Mike White commented, “Coyotes had a great Homecoming week. I thought we played with a purpose Thursday night.”

Shelby jumped out to a 36-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Senior Bryce Lee ran in three TDs, one from three, one from five, and one from 65 yards. Fellow Senior Trenton Emerson added two more scores, a 35-yard run, and caught a pass from junior Kyle McDermott. Hayden Schilling and Lee added three extra point conversions to start the running clock in the first quarter.

Lee and Emerson both added runs of 10-yards in the second quarter to push the Coyote led to 52 by the end of the first half.

The second half saw freshman Evan Clark run in two scores to extend the Coyote lead to 64 by the end of the third period.

Rocky Boy got on the scoreboard late in the fourth quarter, but senior Enrico Gandini returned the kickoff to end the scoring for the night.

Coach White stated, “Defense adjusted to some changes and was flying to the ball. Offense got the ball in the end zone at a good rate. Bryce Lee ran the ball with a purpose and the offensive line blocked as well as they have all season. Our younger kids got a lot of playing time, which is always a plus.”

The Coyote defense stifled the Stars all evening, Emerson picked off the quarterback twice, Schilling once, and freshman Payton Gray ended the game with the fourth Coyote interception.

The Coyotes travel to Joliet on Saturday for a noon kickoff.

Coach White added, “They are one of the top teams in the state. It will be a great test for us to get better. Thanks for all the support and people that helped pull off Homecoming Week.”
