Sergeant Michael Mccarthy, with Martin County's rapid response team, said, "our main mission task has been anti looting hitting a lot of the smaller neighborhoods, we are seeing the glass being broken out and people stealing cigarettes and alcohol."

The team works the overnight shift, patrolling the streets after curfew, some families in the area say they are thankful for the extra eyes keeping them safe.

"The Boost Mobile store down the road got broken into on Friday which really kinda worried me," said Hayes, a father displaced from the storm and living in his boss's business temporarily.

The deputies say they could be in the area for weeks, and will swap out peronelle in the coming days.
