He was on the Patriots' practice squad in 2021 when he was signed by Washington after that team's starting quarterback and backup became sick with COVID-19. He only played in that one game, which Washington lost. The only healthy quarterback currently on the Patriots' roster is Bailey Zappe, who played most of Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers. Quarterback Brian Hoyer suffered a head injury during the first quarter and Mac Jones was unavailable because of an ankle injury.
