Luis Severino didn’t get a chance to finish off his no-hit bid on Monday night, but he did show Boomer and Gio that the Yankees may have another ace heading into the playoffs.

In the eyes of Gio, Severino’s no-hit innings confirmed that Gerrit Cole, despite being the likely game one starter in the ALDS, is the Yankees’ third-best pitcher.

“You have two guys who are clearly better than him right now,” Gio said of Cole. “And he’s gonna be the guy.”

Cole has struggled of late while Nestor Cortes was dominant in his final regular season start, and has looked equally dominant since returning from the IL. As for Severino, he was pumping 99 mph and overpowering the Rangers in his final tune-up before the playoffs, where he will likely be the game three starter. But there is an argument to be made that he should pitch earlier in the series.

“He is ready to rock and roll,” Boomer said. “He is entrenched as their third starter right now. He might even be better than Gerrit Cole right now.”
