Citing non-adherence to zoning laws, the Village of Brookville has reportedly decreed that the Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center (JCC) in East Hills permanantly close Camp Jacobson, which has been open for nearly a decade-and-a-half and hosts hundreds of children annually.

The zoning issues experienced by Camp Jacobson began with a denial of permits while attempting to expand in 2017, according to court documents.

Sid Jacobson JCC spokesperson Ross M. Wallenstein noted that closure of Camp Jacobson is a day of sadness for the community, but noted that they may fight the Village's decision in court if possible.

“After 14 years, the Village of Brookville is attempting to close down Camp Jacobson, leaving many families aggrieved and saddened,” he said. “Sid Jacobson JCC is continuing to explore its legal options and is seeking alternatives to delivering a quality summer for its families and children where possible.

According to their website, "Camp Jacobson is a place where children grow and flourish in a safe, nurturing environment built upon Jewish values and ideals.  We provide children a home where they feel known, important and part of the CJ family.  Everything we do is guided by our BEAR values of Bravery, Empathy, Awareness and Responsibility.  We use these values to help us build our program and curriculum."
