After a heartbreaking loss to Ole Miss Saturday afternoon, a wave of sadness made its way across the Commonwealth and the beautiful state of Kentucky. One beacon of sunshine that came from that game however was the play of the Wildcats’ stud freshmen Barion Brown, Dane Key and Deone Walker.

Brown was just named SEC Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week after running all over the Rebels, Key made a few tough catches and a great catch in the endzone that didn’t count, and Walker completely rag-dolled an Ole Miss player at the start of the fourth quarter.

The 2022 Kentucky freshman class has been stellar so far, as Brown, Key and Walker along with defensive back Alex Afari have become staples of this Wildcat team. While those guys were playing in Oxford this weekend, the next crop of Kentucky freshmen was playing under the lights on a smaller stage.

2023 Kentucky commits Shamar Porter and Anthony Brown were just a few future Wildcats that had impressive weekends.

Shamar Porter Continues Stellar Season

Shamar Porter out of Ensworth High School in Nashville (TN) is Kentucky’s highest-rated recruit in their 2023 class for a reason. He continued to thrash opposing defenses this weekend, hauling in four catches for 164 yards and two touchdowns in a 55-21 win over Antioch High.

Back in May, Porter and Kentucky star freshman Barion Brown took part in the Tennessee state track meet. In the 100-meter dash, Brown finished in first place, running an impressive 10.83. Porter finished two spots behind Brown, running the dash in 11.02 seconds. Porter has a recorded 10.89 finish in a 100-meter dash, which would have been only .06 behind Brown. You think Barion is fast? Just get ready for Shamar.

Kentucky DB Commit Avery Stuart Can Do It All

Four-star DB Avery Stuart out of Montgomery, Alabama is Kentucky’s second highest-ranked recruit in their class of 2023. Stuart is known to be an absolute ballhawk, shutting down any pass thrown in his direction. When his team needs him to step in and play receiver, however, he can do that also.

In a close game against St. James, Stuart hauled in a deep ball in the back of the endzone as a few kids yelled “He’s him! He’s him!” He is indeed him.

Stuart looks to provide valuable secondary help upon his arrival to Lexington next season. He picked Kentucky over schools such as Florida State, Auburn, and Ole Miss.

Anthony Brown: WR1

Wide receiver Anthony Brown is Kentucky’s fourth-highest commit in their 2023 class and is the #1 WR in the state of Ohio. Brown seems to be proud of this distinction, as he proudly displays it in his Twitter bio.

Brown continues to show why he is so highly touted, as he torched Springboro High for 147 yards and three touchdowns Friday night. Next year’s wide receiver room will feature Key and Brown as the main two options, with freshman studs Brown, Shamar Porter, Nasir Addison and Jakob Dixon joining the mix.

Whether Mark Stoops and company go with Deuce Hogan or Kaiya Sheron at quarterback, or even pluck one from the transfer portal next season, they will be more than well equipped with tons of talent around them.

Kentucky currently has the 33rd-ranked recruiting class in the country, according to On3.
