Youth prison guard avoids jail time for role in allowing attacks on inmates

ST. CHARLES, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A guard at a youth prison in St. Charles avoids jail time for his role in allowing attacks on inmates.

Michael Klimek, 46 of Yorkville was sentenced to 18 months probation and community service. The Daily Herald reported that Klimek and three other guards at the Illinois Youth Center were charged in 2016 with allowing a so- called cleaning crew to beat and rob those in custody.

Video reportedly shows Klimek standing at a doorway looking in while the victim was being attacked. Klimek was convicted in April of six felony counts and with official misconduct.

He was acquitted on 69 other charges and the other three guards were acquitted as well.
