COATESVILLE — One person was killed, and another seriously hurt following a three-vehicle accident Monday in Coatesville.

Police said the accident took place Monday at 3:15 p.m. at the intersection of South Manor Road and Route 82. Witnesses on the scene told authorities that a Black Kia Forte was coming off South Manor Road to turn left onto northbound First Avenue (Route 82) when the vehicle was struck by two other vehicles that were traveling southbound on First Avenue.

The force of the accident spun the black Kia around and pushed it about 30 yards down the roadway. One of the two other vehicles slammed into the end of the guardrail and then ended up on the northbound side of the roadway facing the wrong way.

Police from Coatesville, Valley and West Caln all responded along with Firefighters from the Coatesville Fire Department. Firefighters arrived on location and had three injuries with one person seriously injured and trapped in the vehicle. Crews quickly went to work and extricated the person at 3:23 p.m.

The victim who was trapped was turned over to EMS however the injuries sustained were too severe and the victim was pronounced dead on the scene. The identity of the deceased has not been released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.

At least two other victims were transported to local hospitals by EMS. The extent of their injuries is unknown.

Fire Police from several departments were on location and had Route 82 closed between Lincoln Highway and Route 340 including the ramps from the 30 Bypass for several hours while police investigated the accident. The roadway was reopened just before 8 p.m.
