One cancer survivor, Laurie Hornback, is helping others through her fundraiser Bras for a Cause.
We sat down with Hornback to hear her story and to learn more about what she's doing.
So after I was diagnosed the first time I went through treatment," Hornback shared. "I knew there were so many people that could not afford mammograms I'm a nurse, so I've seen that part of it, too. They couldn't afford mammograms, couldn't afford treatment, couldn't even afford gas to get back and forth to treatment. Because a lot of people have to take time off work. So I thought if we could just find a way just to raise a little money just to help people out, that was my my ultimate goal. So the first year that we started, we raised $4,000. And I thought life was great, you know, and I thought, well, maybe I'll do it again. So then it's just grown and grown and gotten crazy. But, you know, had I not gone through it myself, I would have never even thought to do something like that.
After 10 years Hornback is taking a small break this year from hosting Bras for a Cause in Hedrick, Iowa, but she shared she's looking forward to bringing the event back on April 8, 2023.
Be sure to tune into KTVO News on Thursday night to hear more from Hornback.
