Man Injured In Southwest Charlotte Shooting

UPDATE OCTOBER 5, 2022

CMPD says they have arrested a suspect in this case. Tan Nhat Tran, 20, is charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury and Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle.  Police say Tran met with the victim about the sale of a Dodge Charger that Tran had listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace. During the interaction, Tran showed a gun.

The victim tried to get away in a truck, but officers say Tran clung to the passenger side and fired, striking the victim in the abdomen. The truck sped into the Berewick shopping center where it hit at least one parked car. The victim was able to wrestle the firearm away from Tran, who fled to a nearby hotel where he was located and taken into custody. The Dodge Charger listed for sale was reported stolen out of Alabama.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – One person has life-threatening injuries after a shooting in southwest Charlotte. It happened on Berewick Town Center Drive just after 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Police had crime scene tape around the parking lot of a shopping center while they investigated. There is no word what led to the shooting.

Charlotte Fire Department says, firefighter Michael Cunningham witnessed the shooting while out grabbing lunch items from a nearby grocery store for his fellow crew members when the shots rang out. Firefighter Cunningham called 911 and helped provide aid to the shooting victim until emergency officials arrived. He also assisted with keeping bystanders safe and out of harm’s way.

WCCB has learned one person has been taken into custody.
