Roanoke Rapids police are looking for a man who fled from the scene of a Sunday morning crash which caused $10,000 in damages to a house at the intersection of Seventh and Charlotte streets.

Chief Bobby Martin said a man who has been identified as James Bailey, 33, of Roanoke Rapids, fled the scene and was last seen running toward Sixth Street around 12:30 that morning.

Martin said the crash destroyed a fence and an air conditioning system and caused damage to the second story of the house.

When Officer D. Norfleet arrived there was a badly damaged vehicle which had flipped over.

The officer was told that a person initially described as a white male had fled the scene. A passenger in the vehicle was taken to ECU North for treatment of injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

Police obtained warrants for Bailey’s arrest on charges of hit and run and property damage.

Martin said speed was a contributing factor. He said the crash left 164 feet of skid marks. The police chief said Bailey was operating the vehicle at an estimated speed at least twice than the posted limit of 25.

On Sunday around 6 p.m. Officer J. Way and Master Officer A. Bradley responded to the 500 block of West Third Street after receiving a call of an active domestic disturbance.

While the officers attempted to conduct a follow-up investigation, a man identified as Kadeem Debreaux, 31, became agitated and would not follow directions of the officers.

The officers placed the Roanoke Rapids man under arrest for resisting and delaying the investigation.

The officers also learned a woman and a child were assaulted. Debreaux was additionally charged with assault on a female and assault on a child under 12.

He received a $500 bond for the resisting count and was jailed without the opportunity for bond on the domestic counts.

He has an October 21 court date.
