Kate and Tully will return for a bigger, final season of Firefly Lane at Netflix.

Led by Grey's Anatomy's Katherine Heigl and Scrubs' Sarah Chalke, the series revolves around a friendship spanning decades and being put to the test of time.

First landing on the streamer in February 2021, Firefly Lane – an adaptation of the book of the same name by Kristin Hannah – was seemingly left on the backburner after being renewed in May last year.

Many months after its debut, it was finally announced that the girls (and their wigs) will be back for a 16-episode second season premiering on December 2.

Unfortunately, this new chapter (split into two parts) will also be the last we'll see of Kate (Chalke) and Tully (Heigl) as the show is officially ending. With a higher episode count than most series today, however, we trust Netflix will have the chance to wrap the story with a bow.

Following the official announcement, Heigl took to her Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes picture with her co-star Chalke and the actresses who play the younger versions of Tully and Kate, Ali Skovbye and Roan Curtis.

"Firefly Lane Girls are back! We can't wait to share the second and final season with you all on December 2nd," Heigl captioned the shot.

But where did we leave our leading ladies in season one? Spoilers for the Firefly Lane season one finale ahead – so stop reading if you haven't watched the series yet and intend to do so before chapter two comes out.

The final episode of season one ended on a time jump, with Kate attending her father's (Paul McGillion) funeral with her daughter Marah (Yael Yurman). Tully shows up, but it's clear she has done something Kate may never forgive her for. Will the two former friends be able to patch things up?

Firefly Lane season two, part one premieres on Netflix on December 2. Part two is expected to stream in 2023.
