Georgia Sen. Raphael Warnock rakes in $26.3M as GOP challenger Herschel Walker falls behind

Sen. Raphael Warnock’s (D-GA) reelection campaign has turned into a fundraising juggernaut, picking up $26.3 million in the last three months as Election Day nears and control of the Senate hangs in the balance.

Warnock’s campaign said Monday that it had collected money from more than 340,000 donors from July to September and would end the quarter with $13.7 million in the bank. During the second quarter, Warnock brought in $17.2 million.

“There is undeniable momentum in Georgia to reelect Reverend Warnock to the U.S. Senate, and tens of thousands of grassroots donors are helping to propel our campaign across the finish line in November,” said Quentin Fulks, Warnock’s campaign manager.

Warnock won the Senate seat during a special election last cycle. It had been previously held by Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler, who was appointed after then-Sen. Johnny Isakson resigned. Isakson died in December. Flipping the historically ruby-red seat helped give Democrats a majority in the Senate.

Warnock’s Republican challenger, Herschel Walker, has not fared as well in the fundraising department. The former NFL running back endorsed by former President Donald Trump has not filed his latest financial details but collected $6.2 million and ended with about $7 million in the bank last quarter.

Walker’s campaign has been hit by a wave of negative news lately. Most recently, the Georgia GOP Senate nominee has been accused of paying for his then-girlfriend’s abortion in 2009. If true, the allegation, reported by the Daily Beast, would directly contradict the abortion ban Walker advocates on the campaign trail. Walker’s adult son, Christian Walker, also lashed out at him. The younger Walker claims his father threatened to kill multiple family members and chose to go into politics without the support of a single relative.

For his part, Walker went on Fox News Monday night and denied the claims made by the Daily Beast as a “flat-out lie.”
