911 issues reportedly resolved for Verizon customers in East Tennessee

Loudon County dispatchers said Verizon ran tests and determined the issue had been resolved for people experiencing issues calling 911.

HAWKINS COUNTY, Tenn. — Several East Tennesseans who use Verizon had trouble dialing 911 Tuesday, according to multiple emergency communications agencies across the state. 

Hawkins, Loudon, and Claiborne counties reported silent delays for people calling 911 on Tuesday. Some delays were worse than others. Loudon County Dispatch told 10News calls took seconds longer to connect but the call still goes through, while others reported longer delays. 

Later Tuesday night, Loudon County said Verizon had run tests and that everything was working correctly, and Claiborne County also reported it hadn't seen any issues since 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Hawkins County said it did not have any official notification from Verizon Tuesday night, but said it appeared the issue had been resolved.

If you are a Verizon customer and are having trouble connecting with Hawkins County 911, call 423-272-7121 for assistance.

If you are in Claiborne County, authorities said you could call 423-626-1911.

In Loudon County, you should call 865-458-9081 if you are having trouble getting through to 911.

Similar problems were reported in Memphis and other counties in the state. 

Verizon has informed county officials that they are working on the problem.

According to Hawkins County officials, this problem is happening to Verizon customers throughout the state.
